The Hairy Growler 18th birthday Key is a modern, green, recycled, sustainable take on a wonderful traditional gift.  The key to your future represented in a key handcrafted from a coin minted the same year of the 18 year old birthday enjoyer!  You are welcome to select a vintage style key or a more contemporary look key or both.  Each Key can be engraved with “18” or a special initial below the 2005 coin date.

These beautiful little 2006 one pound coin 18th Birthday key pendants have been lovingly and hand cut with enormous care from original ‘out of circulation’ 2006 pound coins.

Each Key pendant is carefully handcrafted to order, using only these recycled 2006 pound coins. The coins themselves are the perfect medium for this traditional 18th Birthday symbolic gift and inline with a love of nature using these coins is the perfect ethical and green solution. No new metal is destructively ‘mined’, rather, old, uncollectible coins are saved from the ‘melting pot’ so some of their history and story live on.

Once the design has been freehand sketched on to the coin it is carefully hand cut and carved using traditional hand saws, chisels and files. This traditional process allows me to have a close connection to each piece, ensuring the end result is personal and unique. Handmade and recycled in Cambridge, England.  If the option is available I also have a couple of solid silver proof 2006 pound coins which can be requested and used to create the unique ethical 18th birthday key.
