40th Birthday – The Cyclist

1985 This unusual and completely unique bicycle pendant has been crafted and transformed from old British one pound coin. When Searching through the enormous coin collection i have gathered over the years there are coins which just scream out at me ‘I want to be a particular design’. These coins have interesting ‘text’ on the circumference edge and the simplicity of a bicycle in the centre just works. You are also welcome to request a special engraving of initials on the frame!

The specific art of looking at coins and turning them into lovely wearable, unusual rings began during the terrible world wars. Some artisan soilders would take these coins and transform them into rings, pendants and brooch pins for loved ones and to remind them of loved ones back ‘at home’. The resourcefulness of these soilders is admirable and inspiring. This resourceful intent has now resurfaced in my work as a silversmith with green ethics looking to create original and unusual wearable pieces of art. Trench art to recycled art.

NECKLACE INFORMATION

Many of the necklace / pendant designs are complete. These designs have a sterling silver chain attached to the pendant from both sides. This design is perfect for looking in a mirror to fasten the necklace. It also makes a fabulous feature of the handmade hook catch (and star if chosen).  The necklace length you choose includes the length of the actual pendant. Do not worry about the pendant dimensions we will take care of your order. Order the necklace length you would normally wear and the necklace you receive will sit in the perfect position..

Medium size : approx 195 mm

Large size : approx 210 mm (good size if you want a looser dangly medium fit)
