Recycled ‘out of circulation’ Pound coin
This solid golden bronze one pound coin was issued with many variations in design. From my perspective the really lovely feature of the coin is its unique thickness and accompanying edge detail.
The Latin translates to English as ‘An Ornament and a Safeguard’! They must’ve know as soon as they were taken out of circulation Hairy Growler would be putting them to work of protective amulets.
According to legend, the left eye was torn from Horus by his murderous brother Seth, and magically restored by Thoth, the God of magick.
Together, the eyes represent the whole of the universe, a concept similar to that of the Taoist Yin-yang symbol. Spiritually, the right eye reflects solar, masculine energy, as well as reason and mathematics. The left eye reflects fluid, feminine, lunar energy, and rules intuition and magick. Together, they represent the combined, transcendent power of Horus.
The Eye of Horus was believed to have healing and protective power, and it was used as a protective amulet, and as a medical measuring device, using the mathematical proportions of the eye to determine the proportions of ingredients in medical preparations) to prepare medications.
Every single one of these pendants is different, unique and unusual. All are symbolic, beautiful and meaningful, depending on the eye of the beholder.
Each pendant requires many miniature holes to be drilled and the piercing saw to be fed into these holes to cut away all the small sections. The pendant is carefully and gradually crafted from the centre of the old English pound coin. You are welcome to select the left eye of Horus or the right eye of Ra.
You are also welcome to have the surface details of the coin visible or choose to have them chiselled away leaving a filed, sanded and highly polished brilliant golden yellow bronze.
Handcrafted and recycled in Cambridge, UK.
