A Little More Detail…
In the UK, silver-coloured coins minted pre-1919 were made from 925 silver – more commonly known as sterling silver. This quality of silver, no longer in general currency, is ideal for jewellery purposes, and the coin’s nature gives each piece an inherent added layer of history and charm. These coins, whilst once being a foundational part of society and culture, now have almost no value, being too scarred and worn for collecting purposes. So, instead of letting these beautiful coins (most over 100 years old!) be melted down, I reshape them into a timeless piece of unique and handmade jewellery that can be treasured for a lifetime.
The medium magical mushroom measures approx 22mm * 30mm. It is a lovely sturdy shroom which perfectly represents a sense of magic, miracle, wonder and adventure in your life. I handcraft these from silver half crown coins and copper farthings.
The unmistakable red cap of the Amanita muscaria has been recreated using an old out of circulation Fathing coin with wee pieces of silver lucky sixpence as the “white spots”. The mushroom stem is made from a piece of chunky silver half crown coin. You are welcome to request a couple of initials on the reverse and I will lovingly hand engrave them.
*** Other charms in the pictures such as stars, butterfly, oak leaves, acorns are to illustrate the various looks and combinations. They are available separately within the collection. ***
