Oak tree branch and leaf silver coin ring.
Oak leaf silver coin ring – Recycled sterling silver coin.
A beautiful contemporary, eco-conscious, nature loving wedding ring that doesn’t cost the earth, especially in terms of the destructive mining process. They are available in all sizes, and each one is handcrafted to order from an sterling silver British coin. The band itself is a perfect everyday wearable width, once it is fitted it instantly becomes part of your life. It is unobtrusive, effortless to wear and easily admired at a glance.
Coins minted before 1920 in Britain (and many other countries) are sterling silver. These coins are just perfect to turn into rings. During the terrible world wars some artisan soldiers would take these precious coins and transform them into rings for loved ones and to remind them of loved ones back ‘at home’. The resourcefulness of these soldiers is admirable and inspiring. This resourceful intent has now resurfaced in my work as a silversmith with green ethics looking to create original and unusual wearable pieces of art. Trench art to recycled art.
The outside surface of the ring is meticulously hand filed, sanded and polished to a beautiful high lustre. This gives the rings a wonderfully traditional wedding band look. This polished surface is then carefully hand carved and engraved with oak tree branch details and finished with a single oak leaf. The oak leaf is handmade and recycled silver from the actual coin the ring is made from, so the entire coin is used to make the piece. You are welcome to request a couple of personal initials to be carved into the branch. Inside of the ring, the other side of the coin is clearly visible. This hidden detail, for you, completes the circle.
There is no ‘join’ in these rings which is another reason they are just perfect for your hand fasting ceremony , they are an ‘unbroken circle’, quite lovely and symbolic.
Smaller size rings are made using sterling silver Sixpences and Shillings. Medium size rings are made using Shillings and Florins, whilst larger rings are made using Florins and Halfcrowns. They all look fab. From the drop down menu you are able to request a specific width.
“An unbroken circle of union…”
