Love & Kismet Owl Earrings

Owl earrings – handcrafted and recycled sterling silver shilling.

I have named these tiny owls Love and Kismet. Kismet means destiny or fate; what is written in your divine stars. Combine this with love, and these little birds make a formidable pairing.

Firstly, I have recycled them from a traditional English sterling silver shilling. Coincidently, coin collectors do not value these shillings. This is down to marks and blemishes on the surface. Wear and tear make these coins unwanted – but not to me. I refuse to let these coins be melted down for the silver content. Instead, I’ve transformed them into something desirable. I create designs and ideas to preserve the coins’ personalities and quirks. By doing this, the historical details are retained, which adds depth, interest and intrigue to the design.

The pair of love owls come complete with moon and star earrings. This unusual set of four earrings allows you to wear a traditional pair of beautiful owls. Alternatively you can work the  individual, original asymmetrical variation. In other words, it means you have a couple of spares in case Kismet has other ideas… They are also stud type fitting, therefore sport-friendly.

Each set is completely unique, contemporary, ethical and beautiful. I have individually hand cut, carved and engraved  them from the silver shilling with a traditional jewellers hand tools.

To conclude, I present the earrings with their sterling silver ‘off-cut’. This beautifully demonstrate the origins of the owls and connects them to their recycled material history.
