I was searching for a wedding anniv present for my wife, and was trying to find something original, and with personal meaning. The Hairy Growler piece of Hawaii caught my eye, and I took a look at their site to see if the item would meet my needs.

The item in question is carved from a single coin, in the shape of a hibiscus flower, ideal for me, as we spent our honeymoon in Hawaii. The images on the site showed a hand crafted piece, with options for chains and charms. I like the style and finish of the item – I don’t want a geometrically perfect piece of jewellery, as I think that they are a little too perfect and have a clinical unlived in aspect. The Hairy Growler piece was much more in tune with what I had in mind. You can tell that this is a handmade part, and it gives the piece a rough and rugged look, which to me makes it personal.

The package arrives within a few days, and I had communication from the seller. Inside the package, there was a neat small box, containing a cloth pouch, the reciept and a few other pieces of packaging. Within the pouch, carefully wrapped in tissues paper was the necklace, with the chain. The unused part of the coin was also included, which is a great memento.

I am really pleased with the product, loved the originality of the piece, and the humour of the packaging. It’s a great individual and unique piece of jewellery that I am sure my wife will adore.

On the rare occasions that I come across an artisan, such as the Hairy Growler, it makes me want to help them a little bit more. The craftsmanship is great, and to have a piece made specifically , by a local craftsman beats an off the shelf part any day. Very, very happy.
