“Waving, warning, singing & dancing in the second Moon month. Intuition, protection, success and healing, The Rowan tree.” – Harey Growler
Rowan leaves jewellery – Recycled Spoon Brooch
This lovely, uplifting, symbolic little brooch has been hand cut from the ‘bowl’ of an old vintage dessert spoon. As with most pieces i create, the design is hand sketched on to the surface. The rough outline drawing is meticulously follwed with an extra fine jewellers saw.
A few other simple, traditional tools is all that is needed to transform an unwanted, discarded, antique dessert spoon into a contemporary, desirable brooch.
A beautiful tree whose slender trunk supports wonderful branches covered in glorious fingers of leaves. The Rowan tree Im lucky enough to have in my garden has a Iovely ‘voice’ as I hear it. The leaves just dance in the breeze and its sings a gorgeous song which has inspired many a piece thats for sure. Its known that a Rowan tree / witchwood / mountain Ash in your garden kicks the arse of spirits with bad intent, I assume that’s due to the branches making wavy handy sounds and vibrations and probably part of the reason they are used as specific wands. Last year I made some fruit leather using the berries mixed with apple and orange juice. It was a time consuming mess and the result was, okay(ish) but I will be trying again this year for sure. Some great info here re. the health and medical benefits of Rowan berries, and as the article states they are plentiful due to most people assuming they are poisonous.
Handmade and recycled in Cambridge.
