A Little More Detail…

In the UK, silver-coloured coins minted pre-1919 were made from 925 silver – more commonly known as sterling silver. This quality of silver, no longer in general currency, is ideal for jewellery purposes, and the coin’s nature gives each piece an inherent added layer of history and charm. These coins, whilst once being a foundational part of society and culture, now have almost no value, being too scarred and worn for collecting purposes. So, instead of letting these beautiful coins (most over 100 years old!) be melted down, I reshape them into a timeless piece of unique and handmade jewellery that can be treasured for a lifetime.

The Runes

Rune stone bracelet – handmade and recycled from 100 year old silver threepence coins, sixpences, shillings, Florins and Half Crowns

Rune stone shapes and forms are perfect for carving into silver and stone.  They are an intriguing part of our Celtic and Northern European story. The Runes look striking as matching pieces, but can also bound together as a collection depending on mood and purpose.  Each piece is carefully and considerately handcrafted from a solid fragment of sterling silver 150 year old coin.  The bracelet includes many tiny ‘fragments’ /‘shards’ which present the overall distinctive look of the bracelet.  These little elements have hidden details, carved, stamped and engraved which give it a wonderful timeless magic.

The reverse of each rune charm clearly demonstrates the ethical origins of the raw materials used to create the rune.  This compounds the power, will and intent of the charm, making the purpose clearer and more effectual.  Download Silver Rune chart
