Scarab Beetle Sixpence
Scarab beetle jewellery – handmade and recycled silver & gold coins
This lovely magical scarab beetle design pendant has been carefully hand crafted from an old English silver Sixpence coin. The coin itself was minted in 1900’s from the finest silver. Not only does the silver ‘some-how’ feel warmer and more beautiful it also has the depth of its history behind it. This combined with the fact that it is more ethical and green to use than freshly mined and processed silver make it the perfect raw material for a contemporary take on a lovely traditional design.
Once flattened into the sacred scarab design is roughly drawn onto the coin surface. This trace outline is carefully followed with an ultra fine piercing saw blade. The interior detail is revealed using the same hand saw and a pendant drill. The silver is also meticulously hand carved and engraved. The scarab represents many things including birth and regeneration of life and the pushing of the sun across the sky. In this case the sun is crafted from a piece of recycled bronze from a ‘thrupney’ bit threepence coin
