Recycled silver coins
These beautiful contemporary and eco-conscious wedding rings dont cost the earth, literally and actually. They are available in all sizes, and each one is handcrafted to order from an sterling silver British coin.
Coins minted before 1920 in Britain (and many other countries) are sterling silver. These coins are just perfect to turn into rings. During the terrible world wars some artisan soilders would take these precious coins and transform them into rings for loved ones and to remind them of loved ones back ‘at home’. The resourcefulness of these soilders is admirable and inspiring. This resourceful intent has now resurfaced in my work as a silversmith with green ethics looking to create original and unusual wearable pieces of art. Trench art to recycled art.
The outside surface of the ring is meticulously hand filed, sanded and polished to a beautiful high lustre. This gives the rings a wonderfully traditional wedding band look. However the best part is the inside of the ring, where the other side of the coin is clearly visible. This hidden detail, for you, completes the circle.
There is no ‘join’ in these rings which is another reason they are just perfect as wedding bands, they are an ‘unbroken circle’, quite lovely and symbolic.
Smaller size rings are made using sterling silver Sixpences and Shillings. Medium size rings are made using Shillings and Florins, whilst larger rings are made using Florins and Halfcrowns. They all look fab. From the drop down menu you are able to request a specific width. Below are a list of the maximum widths for each coin when transformed into a ring. You are welcome to request thinner bands for each coin but obviously not wider than stated.
Sizes : Approx
Sixpences approx 4 mm wide.
Shillings approx 7mm wide.
Florins approx 9mm – 10mm wide.
Halfcrowns approx 10mm – 12 wide.
“An unbroken circle of union…”

Just gorgeous
I chose the sterling silver sixpence for my wedding ring. It’s elegant and unique, just gorgeous!

Better than special
Having lost my wedding ring I was looking for something extra special as a replacement. The idea of a piece of old coinage fashioned as a piece of jewellery really appealed and the ring I received more than met my expectations. My wife (who unlike me hasn’t been careless enough to lose her ring) is so impressed that she wants one as well!

Excellent matching wedding rings
We wanted something a bit different for our wedding rings and love the silver bands made from coins that we purchased. They’re very comfortable and look great and have that hand made character that we were after having found the more regular bands we’d been looking at elsewhere uninspiring.
I will definitely be purchasing more jewelry from Hairy Growler.
