Recycled silver Half-Crown coin
This gorgeous octopus necklace is crafted from one sterling silver crown coin, English and dated 1885. The majority of coins circulated over a hundred years ago are pure silver and the ones that are still remaining are in poor condition, from the point of view of a coin collector. The coins are thus only valued for their inherent scrap silver value, which is obviously a real shame. They are definitely the sort of coins you would find at the bottom of the ocean in a lost treasure trove!
The coin was flattened out in my usual manner. Once stretched out to the desired working shape i simply drew the design on with a fine nibbed marker pen. This rough sketch is then embellished and used as a approx guide line for my piercing saw work. From here the pendant was carved, filed, sanded, polished and finished with two wee silver fishy friends (we all have those). The safety catch is also a sterling silver handmade fish hook style catch. Also please feel free to choose your own preference of the style of accompanying fish, bronze, sterling silver or red copper.
SIZE : Approx 60 mm * 50 mm

i feel a real affinity with the octopus since it protected me ……
I dreamt a while ago that a black shadow was attacking me and an octopus appeared and slapped it away! i have always been fascinated by them but unsure of the tentacles….however since the octopus slapped the “intruder” away i feel a real affinity….
