Whispers on the Ocean – Mermaid Earrings – Recycled silver shillings

Gorgeous, asymmetrical mermaid earrings completely handcrafted and totally made from recycled raw materials, bringing the feel of the ocean. I have carefully cut them from 100 year old solid silver shilling coins.

I hand-draw each beautiful mermaid onto the surface of the flattened silver coins and then pierced them out with a traditional jewellers piercing saw. Then, I carefully detail the silver silhouette with hand engraving chisels to bring the ladies alive. They are presented with a third (spare) anchor earring so you have options! The reverse can be engraved with name or date upon request.

The coins I use are marred from wear marks from being used to buy and sell over one hundred years ago. Rather than let them simply be melted down for the silver content, I absolutely love coming up with designs and ideas. Then, I can transform them into Whispers on the ocean. By doing this I retain the historical details, simultaneously adding depth, interest and intrigue to the design. As I hand-cut each coin individually to order, every one is completely unique and unusual.
