The White Raven
Native American Raven necklace – handcrafted & recycled sterling silver crown coin
Haida legend tells that The White Raven stole the Moon from the chief. Flying with it over the Nass River, he came upon fishermen. The White Raven, being hungry, said: “If you will give me fish, I will give you light to fish in the darkness”. In a powerful transformational display, they watched as the White Raven revealed the Moon. They gave Raven his fill of fish, and seeing no further use for the Moon, he flew away leaving it for the fishermen in the dark sky.
The Raven symbolizes creation, knowledge, prestige as well as the complexity of nature and the subtlety of truth. He also symbolizes the unknown and is there to show that every person sees the world in a different way as another. Perhaps he could be known as a Guardian Spirit? He is also a healer, a keeper of secrets, and was never feared unless he was misused.
Based on a beautiful and impressive Haida folk art design the White Raven is made out of a 100 year old silver majestic crown coin. I individually hand cut and carve each element using traditional hand tools and age old techniques worthy of such ceremony. After this, I draw the design freehand drawn onto the sterling silver coin, then I drill several holes and cut the sections delicately away. The end result is a lovely, original, recycled pendant with a captivating history, story and connection to tree roots people and culture
Each one of these coin pendants I create is different, unusual and unique. Be assured that if you order one it will look equally as lovely!
